This beautiful Koi fish pond is constructed at a residence near to Bismi supermarket @ Kaloor - Kadavanthara Road, Kerala. Koi fish pond also features a small vertical garden which helps in consuming the excess nutrients generated by the Koi Fishes.

This Koi fish pond is designed and constructed to keep 16 nos of beautiful Japanese Koi fish of size + 24 ". The pond has a total water volume of 18 M3 including the volume of the biofilter. The pond construction took about 8 weeks to complete.
The pond is constructed using RCC with 8 mm re-enforcements, inside surface of the pond is finished with high-quality glass mosaic tiles. High-grade algae-resistant epoxy is used to affix the tile to the plastered RCC shell.

With our filtration system running all the water parameters are normal range and pH is maintained between 7.5 to 8.5. The Biofiltration pump connected to the UV water clarifier system runs 24 hours daily.
The mechanical systems need to run only 5-7 hours a day to remove all the deposited dirt and fish debris.
Sufficient aeration is supplied to the pond using a high-pressure air compressor with an output of 120 LPH to ensure the oxygen content is always maintained at prime levels.
Uv water clarifier is added for removing harmful bacteria and virus thereby protecting the fishes from infections. it also helps greatly in controlling the alga growth thereby giving water clarity.
The current consumption is reduced to minimal. Other than weekly scrubbing the pond the backwashing and cleaning of the ponds filter system will not take more than 10 minutes.
As water is the source of all life forms its quality is very important for the survival of Koi fishes. The routine cleaning schedule and the mandatory water tests are done periodically so that any abnormalities in the water parameters can be identified at an earlier stage.
The ponds mechanical filtration system features a high capacity multi-cyclone system with a quick drain valve which only needs 2 to 10 -litres of water to backwash and removes the suspended waste particles the same.
The temperature readings are closely monitored using floating thermometers. The readings are satisfactory and are between 22.5 to 24 deg C range day and night.
Koi fish ponds are very different from water gardens since they require regular care and maintenance, such as the testing of water and backwashing of filters.
A proper maintenance schedule, detailing all the tests and water level changes are given in a written format to the customer to follow.
18000 litres of potable water was added to the Koi pond along with adequate quantities of API's pond water conditioner and de-chlorinator. Once the pond water was free from cholrine the biofilter was stocked with a predetermined quantity of filter media and API's quick pond start was added to start up the ponds biofilter.
After two weeks top quality, Indian Koi fishes were added to the pond four nos at a time. Now it has about 14 nos of Indian Koi fishes which is more than a feet in length.
We surely advise quarantining all new fish in a spare or temporary tank at least for a week. And before introducing the same to the main Koi fish pond proper PP Bath or Salt bath with the right concentration of chemicals shall be given to the fish.
By the adoption of the correct quarantining methods, we can elude chances of infections which may sometimes lead to mortal fatalities also.
