Handrail For Staircase

Handrail For Staircase

Handrails are mandatory for staircases for the safety of users. They are frequently robust and constructed of materials, including metal, wood, glass or plastic.

A railing for a staircase should be sturdy and easy to grip, especially if it's wet or icy. If you're looking for a handrail that meets those requirements, consider purchasing one made from metal.

Introduction: Types of handrails:

Different types of handrails are available in the market. It is important to choose the right type of handrail for your staircase. The most common type of handrail is the standard handrail. It is installed on both sides of the staircase and it is made from metal or wood. Another type of handrail is the glass railing.

Glass railings are made of glass and are very popular due to their elegant and stylish appearance. Another type of railing that you can choose is the cable railing. This type of railing consists of cables and it is very strong and durable.

Handrails from metals such as Stainless steel, and mild steel are a durable material and will hold up over time, even if it gets wet or icy.

When to install a handrail:

When it comes to installing a handrail for your staircase, timing is everything. You don't want to wait too long and end up needing one, but you also don't want to install it too early and have to remove it later. So when's the right time?

In general, if there is no other method for people to securely use the stairs, you should add a railing. Any type of stair construction should be finished with at least temporary handrails to ensure people's safety.

For example, if your stairs have a landing or a turn in them, then you don't need a handrail. But if there are no safe places for people to put their feet, then you need to install a handrail.

Depending on the height of the stairs; i.e, If they are more than three steps high, you need a handrail. And finally, keep in mind that local building codes may require a handrail even if your stairs meet the other criteria.

Handrail height:

Handrails are typically installed on both sides of a staircase for safety reasons. The height of the handrail is important as it needs to be high enough so that people can hold onto it while ascending or descending the stairs.

In general, the handrail should be 86-98 Cms high, although it may be higher if needed. If you are installing a handrail for a staircase, be sure to measure the height of the railing and make sure it meets safety standards. We normally consider the height of handrails as 90 cms.

Handrail materials:

When it comes time to choose the material for your handrail, you have a few options. Metal handrails are common, as are wooden handrails. You can also find PVC and composite materials that look like wood but are more durable. It's important to consider the function of your handrail and how much use it will get when making your decision.

If you have a busy household with kids and pets, a metal or PVC handrail might be a better choice than wood, since it will be less likely to scratch or dent. Wood is a good option if you're looking for a traditional look, and it can add warmth to a space. However, you'll need to take care of it properly to avoid water damage and warping.

No matter what material you choose, be sure to consult with a professional about the correct installation procedures.
